Holy Thursday in Berja

How we got this images...
As we travel through Spain, we found ourselves in the middle of the celebrations of the holy week. This event is one of the biggest festivities that Andalucia has, and involves parades, concerts and a showcase of different artistic scenarios. We had the opportunity to attend to the parades in a small town called Berja. Even though we're not christian, we respectfully took this photos to show what a shockingly beautiful event this was.
The pointy head people are called "penitentes" and even though they look similar to some famous racist clan, they are not. There's no racism involved in this celebration.
The central figure of the many different parades are called thrones. Those are extremely heavy sculptures embellished with illuminated and luxurious ornament, and are carried around the town by large groups of men and women depending on the gender of the sculpture.
Despite the town being small (Around 15000 residents), the streets were flooded with people. Native and tourists alike.
Overall this was a shocking experience that got us inspired to create unique pictures and experiment an outstanding cultural event.

Thank you for watching!
